In memorizing them and rendering them properly, a training in feeling and appreciation and a refinement of the emotions is involved which is of great importance in education. They represent in part the culture side of public school work, as distinct from the fact or information side. This culture side of public school training is an element which should not be neglected by any teacher, and a judicious use of selections from the best literature will contribute much toward awakening an appreciation of what is beautiful and noble, and fixing a permanent interest in good literature.
